Proper Storage Of Your Wing
1. INSURE THE AREA IS RODENT FREE!!!!!
Rodents like to stay toasty in the winter like we do. The
difference is, they like to chew and can cause substantial
damage to a wing.
2. Inspect your wing and if necessary send it to the manufacturer for annual
or hourly inspection. It is recommended you have an airworthiness inspection
performed on your wing every 100 hours or on a yearly basis which ever comes
first.
3. Prior to storage shake out the wing to insure all bugs and debris are out
of the inside of the wing. Bugs in particular are very acidic and will cause
damage to wings when stored for a long period of time.
4. Spot clean dirty areas of the wing with a damp cloth and let the areas dry
thoroughly before storage. This will allow for a pretty, clean wing for the
next flying season. It is not recommended you wash your wing. If it is necessary
to wash your wings contact the manufacturer of the wing for proper washing
instructions.
5. Insure wing is dry. Mildew in itself shouldn’t damage the wing because
the mildew does not attack man made fibers. It is only eating the organic items
left in the wing from flying. The major problem with mildew is it is unsightly
and it stinks.
6. Store in a bag that will allow the wing to breath. This will help prevent
mildew. It can be stored in a plastic bag providing the wing is clean and dry.
Storage of a wing in a plastic bag for a prolonged period of time, if the wing
is even damp it will cause mildew to form.
7. If at all possible store in a climate controlled area out of direct sun
and florescent lights. Allot of people don’t realize that florescent
lighting is just as harmful as sunlight to nylon. If possible detach the wing
from the machine and place the wing in a clean safe environment such as a bedroom
closet.
8. If there are any questions as to the proper method of storage contact the
manufacturer. A phone call or e-mail may save you several hundred dollars in
repairs. |
